The Association of Research Institutes in Art History (ARIAH) is proud to welcome the Museu de Arte Contemporânea da Universidade de São Paulo (MAC USP) as our newest member—and our first from South America. This milestone reflects our commitment to broadening ARIAH's reach across the Americas, enriching our network with diverse perspectives and fostering scholarly exchange.
Founded in 1963, MAC USP is a leading university museum with over 10,000 works of modern and contemporary art, housed in a landmark building designed by Oscar Niemeyer. The museum supports research, education, and international collaboration, offering academic programs, hosting exhibitions, and preserving significant archival and library holdings relating to modern and contemporary Latin American art. The museum also hosts visiting scholars and fellows through Brazil’s robust state and national funding agencies. We are thrilled to welcome MAC USP to ARIAH and look forward to the collaborative opportunities ahead.
