Director of The American Academy in Rome

The American Academy in Rome announces a search for Director. The Director is the Academy’s on-campus intellectual leader, responsible for the daily life of its residential community of Fellows, Residents, and visiting artists and scholars.

Leading an intellectual management team of four, the Director shapes intellectual programming, mentors Fellows across disciplines, stewards community life, and represents the Academy’s artistic, academic, and civic circles. The Director reports to the President & CEO.

We are seeking a distinguished record of achievement in one of the Academy’s fellowship disciplines (humanities or arts); demonstrated leadership of an educational, cultural, or arts institution; fluency in Italian; exceptional interpersonal skills and intellectual generosity; willingness to travel and work flexible hours. The position includes on-campus housing.
