| Villa I Tatti
in Florence offers up to fifteen fellowships each academic year for
advanced research in any aspect of the Italian Renaissance. The
Fellowship is open to scholars of any nationality. Fellows are
required to devote full time to their projects for the full academic
year. One of the goals of I Tatti is to establish an intellectual
community, and thus Fellows are thus expected to spend at least two
or three days a week at the Villa and to be in residence close by.
Preference is given to scholars embarking on a new research project
rather than to those who are continuing to work on the subject of
their dissertations. Stipends will be awarded according to
individual needs and generally do not exceed the fifty thousand
dollar range. Applications and supporting material should arrive on
or before October 15.
Villa I Tatti also offers two or
three Mellon Research Fellowships for scholars of the Italian
Renaissance trained in and currently working in Eastern European
Countries. In addition two or three Craig Hugh Smyth Visiting
Fellowships are designed for scholars in any field of Italian
Renaissance studies whose full-time occupations do not allow them
the research time that is normally enjoyed by university academics,
such as museum curators, library professionals and scholars in
similar administrative posts. By extension mothers may apply for
this fellowship as well. Applications and recommendations should
arrive by April 15.
