ARIAH
was incorporated in 1988 to promote scholarship by institutes of advanced
research in the history of art and related disciplines; to provide
general information about the scholarly activities of its member institutes;
and to develop cooperative projects and programs. It currently consists
of 19 member institutions (eighteen full members and one affiliate). |

ARIAH's
first cooperative project was a fellowship program in the history
of art and architecture and related fields in the humanities and social
sciences. In operation from 1995, this pilot program provided research
fellowships to scholars from Mexico, Central and South America, and
the Caribbean. The Latin American Fellowship Program granted its final
awards in 1998 for residence at ARIAH institutions through
1999. |

ARIAH
is currently developing other collaborative initiatives, including
an African Fellowship Program and a Visiting Staff Opportunity Program.
The latter will promote staff interchange and collaboration among
research centers internationally. |

In
addition, each member institution grants residential fellowships of
varying duration to senior and junior scholars in the history of art
and related disciplines. Scholars interested in learning more about
these programs are encouraged to contact the individual institution
for further information. Contact information is available by selecting
"Fellowship Programs at Member Institutions." Member institutions
can also provide a printed copy of the ARIAH brochure, which
summarizes each of the programs. |
