American art studies

The Archives of American Art offers graduate student, predoctoral, and postdoctoral fellowships in American art studies. Fellows have access to the Archives’ collections—consisting of more than 14 million documents—the world’s largest repository of primary source documentation on the history of visual arts and culture in America. Included in the collections are such diverse items as letters and diaries of artists and craftspersons; manuscripts of critics and the unpublished notes of art historians; records of art museums, galleries, and schools; photographs; works of art on paper; and recorded oral and video interviews. Preference is given to research projects that are particularly appropriate to the Archives’ resources, collections, and staff. The application deadline is January 15 for awards beginning the following June 1.
