The
American Academy in Rome, through its School of Classical Studies,
offers predoctoral and postdoctoral residential fellowships in classical
studies, archaeology, history of art, postclassical humanistic studies,
and modern Italian studies. Fellowships also are offered through its
School of Fine Arts in architecture, design arts, historic preservation
and conservation, landscape architecture, literature, musical composition,
and visual arts. The Academy’s 122,000-volume library ranks
among the world’s richest holdings of classical art history
and archaeology, ancient history, Greek and Latin languages and literatures,
Roman topography, epigraphy, numismatics, and ancient religions. The
library also has strong collections on Italian art and architectural
history, rare books, and a broad range of periodicals. The Photographic
Archive contains more than 100,000 photographs and negatives, and
it includes the Fototeca Unione collection, which documents ancient
Roman architecture and topography in Italy and the Roman provinces,
as well as several rare historical
collections. The Academy awards Rome Prize fellowships for periods
of six months to two years. Each recipient receives a room, board,
and a study or studio, in addition to a stipend of $10,000 to $20,000.
The application deadline is November 15 for fellowships beginning
in mid-September of
the following year. |
