The fellowships
program of the National Gallery offers four competitive fellowships: one in
pre-1970 Canadian art, one in post-1970 Canadian art, one in the history of
photography (Lisette Model/Joseph G. Blum Fellowship), and one in art and
science (Claudia De Hueck Fellowship). The fellowships in Canadian art and
in art and science are open to Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
The fellowship in the history of photography is open to international
applicants. The program supports advanced research by art historians,
curators, critics, independent researchers, artists, and other
professionals in the visual arts, museology, and related disciplines in the
humanities, social, and natural sciences, who have a master’s degree
or equivalent experience. All fellowships emphasize the use and
investigation of the collections of the National Gallery, including those
of the library and archives. Depending upon the nature of the research
proposal, fellowships support three to five months tenure at the museum.
