Architectural history, theory, and criticism

The CCA is a research centre and museum devoted to the art of architecture and its history. It promotes the understanding of architectural ideas through advanced research, public exhibitions, scholarly publications, conferences, and other programs. The resources of the CCA’s library, including nearly 200,000 monographs and over 1,500 current serial subscriptions, and the CCA’s collections of prints and drawings, photographs, and archives offer scholars and specialists a wealth of primary and secondary material for research in the history, theory, and practice of architecture. Through its Visiting Scholars Program, the CCA Study Centre welcomes architects and scholars pursuing advanced research in architectural history, theory, and criticism. The Visiting Scholars Program aims at fostering multi-disciplinary exchange. Scholars in residence pursue individual research projects and participate in the scholars’ seminar series. Candidates should submit a research proposal that takes into account the mandate of the Study Centre and the scope of the CCA’s library and collections. No other chronological or thematic restrictions apply. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or have a proven record of professional accomplishments that may be deemed equivalent to holding a doctorate. Residencies at the Centre may extend from three to eight months, beginning in September, January or May. Approximately seven to fifteen scholars are appointed each year and stipends, private offices, and administrative and research support are provided. Notification is in March.
